Career Coach: step by step to have a perfect CV

In the competitive UK job market the CV is the most important tool to search for a job. To be succeed it is necessary to have a very good CV. Next, check out the tips from Siomara Jubert, who specializes in CVs and Carrer Coach, to have a perfect CV!

Step 1 CV file name
You might have heard that is good practice to tailor your CV to each role you apply for. And it might seem silly and a very minor detail how you name of your CV file, but remember: the beauty is on the detail.

Well done you if you are already adapting your CV to each you apply for. However, the recruiter does not need to know you are applying for hundreds of vacancies.  Naming your CV ‘Sales CV’ or ‘version 2′  or ‘CV August 17’ does not sound very attractive. If you name your CV that way it will be a strong hint to the recruiter or hiring manager that you do have 100 different versions of it – even if you don’t. This may indicate you lack on focus by applying to many different roles.

You can keep different versions on your drive, but when sending the file out make sure the file reads simply ‘Joe Blogs CV’ or ‘Joe Blogs’ for example.

Step 2 Contact details
It has been an old practice to put all your details in. The details I am talking about are things such as address, nationality, date of birth, marital status or how many kids you have.

But just think for a moment: why would an employer need to know where you live before hiring you? These are unnecessary and take up space on your CV. On another hand, if you are posting your CV on job boards online, the last thing you want is to have all your data that easily available.

Make sure you add your telephone and email address – full stop!This will make the employer or recruiter’s life a lot easier and increase the chances of you getting a call or email straight away.

Step 3 – SUMMARY
Normally, when you start writing a CV, most people tend to think about describing themselves without considering to whom the CV is aimed at. Bear that in mind as it will be someone else reading it and not you. To start your CV, focus on the experience – in the UK, this is the bit they are most interested in.

Some people like to add the ‘summary’ or ‘personal profile’ a short description about themselves. This approach carries a risk: it takes space on the CV and 99% of the cases does not make your CV any more appealing. On the contrary. It normally carries the same jargons all the other candidates present.

Using too many adjectives without real examples to support it will not make any impact and you will sound just like any other candidate that state they are ‘reliable’, ‘hard working’ or  ‘a team player’ – and the list goes on.

You will need to provide evidence of your affirmations through your experience and achievements and that is what is going to define who you truly are. So, if you want to add a summary on your CV, make it engaging and relevant.

step 4 Length
English language is wonderful in that sense. You can and should be as concise as possible. Why take 10 words to say something when you could use 5? This will make your CV easier to read.

A recruiter or the hiring manager have always quite a few CVs to read and you just want to make their jobs easier. Besides, you really want to make an impact and not kill them of boredom.

Fair enough you might have a lot of experience and if it is the case, start by writing the relevant information for the role you are applying for. So if you had jobs that don’t really relate to what you are doing now or more junior roles, make a short summary for those just so that there isn’t a gap on your work history. No more than 2 pages (front and back).

Step 5 Hobbies
Hobbies…not a real necessity to add them on your CV but I will leave you with two thoughts to ponder upon:

  1. Is it taking too much room on your CV?
  2. Is it relevant for the job you are applying for? Is it going to help you secure an interview with that particular company?

If you answered no to the first and yes to the second, perhaps it is a good idea to have it there. I will leave it for you to decide. To summarise, recruiters want to have a glimpse of who you are and your experience. Write it in your own words. Ask yourself the question: ‘Would I hire myself?’. Good luck with the job hunt!

Ministério das Fronteiras anuncia restrição para trabalhos a imigrantes

Trabalhos especializados que não são mais necessários no Reino Unido serão removidos da lista já aprovada pelo governo, para ajuda a garantir que somente entrarão no Reino Unido trabalhadores imigrantes necessários ao país. O processo de redução de cargos para imigrantes é considerado parte da rota de imigração Tier 2 através do Sistema Baseado em Pontos. Imigrantes altamente qualificados, não membros da União Européia, a procura de experiência profissional no Reino Unido devem solicitar vistos por esta via. O governo aceitou, no dia 18 de outubro, as recomendações do órgão independente Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), responsável por gerenciar o número de vagas de trabalho abrangidos pela lista, a proposta da redução de 40 mil cargos. O total de vagas de trabalho foi suprimido de 230.000 para 190.000. Apenas uma minoria desses empregos serão preenchidos por trabalhadores imigrantes. O MAC fundamentou a proposta em provas onde de uma série de indústrias e setores mostraram trabalhadores residentes disponíveis para preencher as vagas de trabalho. Ministro da Imigração, Damian Green, disse: “Juntamente com os limites impostos para trabalhadores estrangeiros, também estamos tomando medidas para fornecer às empresas com as habilidades que eles precisam da força de trabalho britânica e reduzir a necessidade da contratação de imigrantes.”

Os cargos recomendados pelo MAC para remoção incluem:

  • Professores de biologia do ensino secundário;
  • Terapeutas da fala;
  • Farmacêuticos;
  • Ortopedistas;
  • Veterinários, e,
  • Classificação e arquivo de músicos de orquestra.

Adicionados à lista serão:

  • atuários;
  • Soldadores de tubos de alta integridade;
  • Cientistas ambientais e,
  • Geoquímicos

O governo aceitou a lista recomendada pelo MAC na íntegra. No entanto, o cargo ‘classificação e arquivo de músicos de orquestra’ não será removido da lista imediatamente, mas somente quando novas discussões acontecerem com a indústria, e houver mais conhecimento sobre o mercado de trabalho residente. A lista, já revisada, entrará em vigor a partir de 14 de novembro de 2011. Isso significa que:

  • Para as solicitações de visto cobertas pelo limite anual, a nova lista será aplicada a todas as solicitações através do Tier 2 para certificados restritos de patrocínio feitos em ou após 14 novembro de 2011.
  • Para solicitações fora do limite anual, a nova lista será aplicada a todos os certificados irrestritos de patrocínio atribuídos aos imigrantes em ou após 14 de novembro de 2011.

Como resultado, empregadores só poderão trazer profissionais para o Reino Unido, na categoria Tier 2, se o cargo estiver na lista das ocupações escassas estipuladas pelo MAC. Ademais, o cargo deve passar por um teste de mercado de trabalho para que fique constatado que não há residentes adequados para a vaga, e o mesmo deve ter sido anunciado no mínimo 4 semanas antes da contratação do imigrante.
