European Union citizens who live in the UK should apply for Settlement Scheme.
The rights and status of EU citizens living in the UK will remain the same until 30 June 2021.
Two different status:
- Settled status
- Pre-settled status
Settled status
For people who started living in the UK by 31 December 2020 and lived in the UK for a continuous 5-year period.
Pre-settled status
For people who do not have 5 years’ continuous residence when applying. The candidate must have started living in the UK by 31 December 2020.
With an EU Settlement Status people will be able to:
- work in the UK
- use the NHS
- enrol in education or continue studying
- access public funds such as benefits and pensions, if eligible for them
- travel in and out of the UK
Bring family members to the UK
Close family members can come to the UK before 31 December 2020.
They’ll need to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme once they’re here.
