European citizens may have difficulty staying in the UK{:}{:br}{:}

There is a growing concern that as the date of Brexit approaches, 29 March 2019, thousands of EU citizens living in the UK still do not realize that they need to apply for the status of residence, settled status, to stay in the country. The fear is that people may feel confused by the new rules of immigration in the United Kingdom after Brexit and run the risk of a catastrophic rupture if they do not guarantee the right to remain. Some European citizens who have lived here for many years, during which they have worked and paid taxes, believe that this is sufficient to guarantee their status and are not aware of the newly established status that will be presented until the 29th of March. There is also concern about the groups of people considered “vulnerable”-as victims of trafficking, domestic violence or mental disorders-which usually avoid direct help to the Home Office due to fear or because they do not have access to information. The government has announced that all EU citizens who have lived in the UK for five years or more will be able to apply for “settled status” as of March 2019-the formal date of the Brexit. However, if the new scheme for European citizens is not clear, it can make it extremely difficult for these people to have access to health care, work, and housing. The Home Office ensures that vulnerable people will get the support they need and that the system reaches all Europeans on different platforms. Home Office is expected to disclose an application pilot by the end of this summer and the full service will be released in “phases” until the beginning of 2019. The candidates will have between June and June 2021 to complete the process. Source: INews. LondonHelp4U Do you want to talk to us? 5 reasons to live in London

The food Ahh, the food! England is famous for its’ traditional Fish and Chips, but the culinary in London goes way beyond that. With innumerous street markets and options of food stands and restaurants, London has (almost) anything you can imagine, from Caribbean food to the delicious arab falafel. Do you prefer Brazilian food? There are options of restaurants by kilo, sugarcane juice, pastry, coxinha and cheese bread. You may even miss Brazil while you’re here, but you can just go to the closest food fair to satisfty the hunger! The “TUBE” (and all other transport options) London is big, but the efficient public transport system can take you pretty much anywhere in the city (and even out of it in lines such as the Metropolitan). With tube, overground, DLR, bases and even boats, London’s transport is a worldwide reference. Just to have an idea, the oldest tube line, which is now part of the Northern line, used to be called City and South London Railway and was opened in 1890! No, you didn’t read it wrong! Even though Paris is famous for having the largest tube system in the world, London is home to the oldest one, that serves most parts of the city, and even has a 24 hour service on the weekends.  Despite British pontuality, as in anywhere else in the world delays can occur, but Transport for London, the company responsible for London’s transport, guarantees your money back if your train is delayed for over 15 minutes. To put it simply, you can explore the city from North to South, East to West, and in this case public transport is your biggest ally! Fashion capital of the world Yes, sometimes you will run into some very dubious styles, but London is where some of the biggest fashion trends are originated and exported to the world. And we are not talking exclusively about London Fashion Week! Especially in eastern boroughs, such as Shoreditch, it’s possible to find unique pieces for very affordable prices! Itinerant thrift shops are common, and some sell the clothes by kilo. In case thrift shops are not your style, don’t worry. Oxford and Regent street are two streets that encounter each other in Oxford Circus, and are considered to be a shopping paradise if you’re looking for high end brands, such as Calvin Klein, Gap, Urban Outfitters, and the traditional luxury brand Burberry. It’s difficult not wanting to buy everything! The traditional afternoon tea We already know the British love tea. The tradition started with the Industrial Revolution, when the British Empire found in the east the so called Ceylon Tea, from current Sri Lanka. Since it was cheaper than coffee, the tea was the way British workers found to keep themselves awake during the strenous work hours in 18th century factories. Even after the Industrial Revolution, the tradition remained and the English even improved it.  The afternoon tea is now a tradition in England and can be consumed with treats such as Yorkshire puddings, crumpets, tweets and the delicious shortbreads. It’s possible to have some of the best afternoon teas in luxuous hotels such as the ones in Park Lane Avenue, in front of Hyde Park, and also in the famous store Fortnum and Mason, that has a tea saloon oficial opened by queen Elizabeth in 2012! It’s worth the try! History and culture Few places in the world allow the privilege of passing by castels and millenial buildings while on your way to work or to the supermarket. London is older than 2 thousand years and has history on every corner. The city, since the Romans, has always been important spot for commerce because of river Thames, which made it easier for merchant’s boats to come in and out of the city. It’s not hard to see why England later became a naval power. Among development, wars, crisis and mass migrations, London has always been a city open to the world and full of history in every detail. It doesn’t take much to pay attention to the beautiful architechture and the traditional English cottages that seem to have come out of a fairytale. Even nowadays, with tall buildings in Bank and Canary Wharf, the city hasn’t lost its’ charm and still an open museum. Do you prefer the indoors? London is a paradise for art and galleries lovers, and most of them are free of charge, asking just for an spontaneous contribution in case you’d like to donate. It’s hard to get borde around here! United Kingdom will remain under European laws’ jurisdiction after Brexit

Brexit negotiations are still being ajusted according to decisions taken between the prime minister Theresa May and the European Union. The lastest deal so far is that the UK will remain under EU laws’ jurisdiction for at least 21 after leaving the EU. Therefore, the 1972 Act will be completely revoked only after the transition period, in late 2020 – instead of the exit day, March 29th. According to Sky News, this measure was taken to provide more stability to business and individuals so that there is a continuous effect in the process of leaving the European Union. The negotiation has caused irritation between those who were in favor of Brexit, and created a legal paradox, because Great Britain will no longer have a chair in the European parliament, even when remaining under most of Brussels’ laws. The Brexit secretary, Dominic Raab, stated that most proposals were a clear signal from Brussels that “The UK is a trustworthy and dependent negotiation partner”. He highlighted that only some parts of the European law would be followed after Brexit’s D day, March 29th. Keri Starmer from labour party criticised the deal by saying it was an eufemism and that the government’s key act would be the leaving the EU. He also claimed “The European Communnities act of 1972 is revoked when UK leaves the European zone. We warned that “time would not be enough, and that it would have to be erased – here is the proof”, the politician said in the House of Commons in London. Steve Baker, a Brexit minister, who has recently renounced from Theresa’s May cabinet, called it the least worst mecanism to revoke the old law.

London is elected the most popular city in the world for work

London has been granted the title of most popular city in the world for work by an agency that studies tedencies in immigration workforce. However, the UK’s popularity has gone down in general. The study carried by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) has pointed out London’s proeminence as a global financial city, suit for business and culture, doesn’t seem to have been shaken by Brexit.  The study had already been carried out four years ago, and the English capital had already gotten the first place in the research that time. This time, around 336.000 foreign workers from almost 200 countries have been interviewed, and London has beat New York, Berlin, and Barcelona again. In the first analysis made in 2014, however, the United Kingdom held the second position, falling to the fifth this time.  “London, without a doubt, is one of the best places in the world to work and live, and it’s fantastic news that out message that London is still open for business has been heard loud and clearly”, the mayor Sadiq Khan celebrated. Mike Booker, who supported the research and is the director of TotalJobs, said: “While the United Kingdom may have lost a bit of its’ glow, London is still a top destination for talents from around the world, even post-Brexit”.  Top 5 cities for workers in the world: London New York Berlin Barcelona Amsterdam

LEGAL MINUTE: the United Kingdom may favor qualified European citizens after Brexit.

“Brexit dream is dying”, Boris Johnson alerts in his resignation letter

The Minister of Foreign Relations, Boris Johnson, one of Brexit’s biggest supporters and faces of the campaign, has resigned just a few hours after Theresa May’s cabinet secretary, David Davis announced his own dismissal. In this resignation letter, Boris Johnson alerted that “the Brexit dream is dying”. According to him, Theresa May’s plans may mean that the United Kingdom will become a “EU” colony. Just like David Davis, Johnson attended a meeting in Chequers last week, when the prime minister Theresa May believed she had been able to unite the British government’s ministers. However, any hope of peace has been broken within the first 48 hours, when both representatives decided to go against the rules of collective responsibility, in which ministers are obliged to be lined up with the government. In his letter, Johnson alerts that the Brexiteers’ dreams of a Great Britain focused outside Europe were being “suffocated by unnecessary insecurity”, and that the negotiators were being sent with “flyaway white flags”. He carried on: “the British government spent decades arguing against this or that EU rule. Now we are in a ridiculous position to affirm that we have to accept a certain amount of EU rules, without changing them, because it is essential to our economic health – and in a moment when we do not have any capacity to change these laws. In this aspect, we really are moving towards a colony status.” Johnson broke the protocol by releasing his own resignation letter, instead of waiting for it to be published together with the prime minister’s reply, as usual. Earlier, a Downing Street spokesman announced: “this afternoon, the prime minister has just accepted Boris Johnson’s resignation as Minister of Foreign Relations. His substitute will be announced soon. The prime minister would like to thank Boris Johnson for his service.” Photo: Toby Melville – WPA Pool/Getty Images Europe

LEGAL MINUTE: Minister loses his temper and rips Brexit report apart

The British minister for the Environment, Michael Gove, has supposedly stolen documents about post-Brexit operations after his concerns on the proposals were ignored. The newspapers The Sun and The Guardian informed that Gove was so irritated with the disregard that he ripped apart a report on Theresa May’s plan for a new customs partnership with the EU in a meeting in the government’s cabinet. May has divided a Brexit committee into two groups so that the work can be done in each of the Brexit options. May calls for cabinet’s union for Brexit Cabinet’s ministers have gathered in Chequers in an attempt to discuss a deal on the future of the relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union, according to the BBC. Theresa May has said that they have the obligation to come up with a deal, in a discussion about how strictly the United Kingdom should follow EU’s rules after Brexit. It is expected that she will keep the United Kingdom lined up with the EU’s rules for commerce of goods, but not when it comes to services. If ministers get to an agreement, the EU may choose to accept or reject their proposals. United Kingdom’s customs are accused of racism According to The Guardian, at least a dozen of tourists’ visas have been refused for apparently imprecise and frivolous reasons. The British customs have denied the allegations, describing them as “incorrect and deceptive”. The visa applicants were from African countries, the Indian subcontinent, Cuba, Vietnam, Fiji and Thailand. Jeremy Corbyn asks for postponement on Trump’s visit because of his views on immigration Jeremy Corbyn asked for Donald Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom next month to be postponed among the discontent with the president of the USA’s immigration politics, of children being separated from their parents and being kept in cages. The Labour Party’s leader has attacked Theresa May for not standing up properly against the president, claiming that she would have “many reasons to refuse the visit”. May said in the House of Commons this week that images of children in cages in the USA are distressful and that the effects of Trump’s politics are wrong, but she abstained from explicitly attacking the president himself. The information is from The Independent.
